every year in uganda, hundreds of thousands of children die from preventable illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhoea. but there's a natural way to help keep children healthy. breastfeeding is a free and effective way for a baby to get the valuable nutrients it needs - helping prevent these killer diseases. the united nations is reaching out to mothers educating them about the benefits of breast feeding.
margaret buriungu is a mother of five. "the baby grows well, is healthy and doesn't get sick as often." dr. richard sekitoleko runs a health center on the outskirts of kibiito in western uganda. he sees first-hand the benefits of breast feeding.
